In this forest there are spirits that inhabit certain trees and in the right conditions these spirits can make their presence known by exuding a mortal shape out of the wood. Normally they are never able to separate completely from their own tree, but in some cases they find a partner nearby to help pull each other out of the tree.

After years of constant pulling on each other, they become free and able to walk around the forest. They could then reproduce like humans afterward or join together to form a new tree, starting the process all over.

The third nymph on the right never got the opportunity to escape his sad and lonely existence. Eventually he'll rot and be reabsorbed by the ground.

this image started as a concept two years ago and then I started working on a new variation of the composition in earnest about 6 weeks ago. I've put about 4 hours a week during class lectures since then to get it to this stage. There are several spots that could be improved, like the woman's face, but it is essentially done.

- Mechanical pencil on print paper unfortunately. There is a chance I'll adapt it to a copper engraving after classes end this semester.

Ohh, this is just gorgeous. Your pencil shading is incredible, you're very talented.

And I love the backstory - what a wonderful idea.

Beautiful! There's so much detail - I could stare at it for hours.

thank you thank you. i'm so glad I finally finished this piece, its one of my most cohesive works to date. Instead of just drawing, theres now reasons behind the concept! Its much more rewarding to work that way.
Yeah, exactly. Drawing for a reason is much more fun and rewarding than just drawing for the sake of it.

You're welcome! And well done. x3
